Most Zpacks gear is made from Dyneema® Composite Fabrics. Dyneema® Composite Fabric (formerly Cuben Fiber) is DSM’s bio-based Dyneema® fiber technology. It is derived from renewable, bio-based raw materials and is the first bio-based fiber made from ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (HMPE). The fabric makes it possible to promote sustainability, eliminate PFAS, and reduce dependence on fossil fuels at the same time.

Dyneema® Composite Fabric consists of a grid of white Dyneema® filaments laminated onto a thin, transparent polyester membrane. Dyneema® fiber is up to 15 times stronger than steel on a weight-for-weight basis. Dyneema® floats on water and is extremely durable and resistant to moisture, UV light, and chemicals. It has extremely high tensile strength and very low elongation, making it ideal for tents, tarps, and backpacks.

19 g/m² Dyneema® Composite Fabric

This material is used in our standard fabric bags, and it is also the standard weight for our tarps and tents. It has high tensile strength but, due to the thin membrane material, offers only moderate resistance to abrasion and punctures. Most of our products are sewn and then reinforced with tape. All colors are lightweight and semi-transparent.

34 g/m² Dyneema® Composite Fabric

This fabric features a double-thickness polyester membrane, which gives it greater resistance to abrasion and puncture. It is waterproof and offers a good balance of strength and weight, making it ideal for tent floors and rainwear.

The color is more of an anthracite gray; it's not quite as deep black as it appears in the picture.

This weight contains more than twice as many Dyneema® filaments as the thinner weights and also has a membrane that is twice as thick. It has very high tensile strength and excellent abrasion and puncture resistance.

We use this weight for products that need to be especially durable, such as our Bear Bag Kit or our Airplane Travel Case.

112 g/m² Ultra 100X

Ultra 100X consists of a woven outer layer made of 100-denier ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) laminated to a waterproof lining. Our second-generation fabric features a 50% thicker, more durable 0.75-mil laminate. The inner side is reinforced with an “X” grid to increase tensile strength. The fabric is completely waterproof and offers extremely high tear and abrasion resistance.

99 g/m² Ultra TenX

Ultra TenX is a high-quality UHMWPE composite fabric designed for high-performance applications that require maximum tensile strength, minimal weight, and excellent water resistance. Its multi-layer construction combines woven UHMWPE, cross-ply reinforcement, and a 0.019 mm film laminate to provide unmatched durability in demanding environments.

216 g/m² EPX 200 Ecopack

Ecopack EPX 200 is made from 100% recycled polyester. The outer fabric features a C0-DWR treatment, and the backing consists of a 70-denier ripstop fabric that provides better seam strength and greater durability. The fabric is completely waterproof and offers high tear and abrasion resistance.

100-denier ripstop nylon offers excellent tensile strength and abrasion resistance for its weight. The material features a fully waterproof polyurethane coating. The outer surface has a durable water-repellent C6 behandelt.

51 g/m² wasserdichtes, atmungsaktives Vertice-Gewebe

This fabric, used in our Vertice rainwear, consists of a tricot lining that wicks moisture away from the skin, a waterproof, breathable membrane in the middle, and 7-denier ripstop nylon on the outside, treated with a durable, effective “C6” water-repellent finish. Its incredible breathability outperforms most other rain jackets and suits, including fabrics from the previous generation.

17 g/m² Ventum Ripstop Nylon

This super-lightweight, high-quality 7-denier fabric features a ciré coating on both sides and weighs just 0.59 oz/yd² (17 g/m²). With a high-quality, PFAS -free “C0” DWR (Durable Water Repellent) treatment, this ripstop and tear-resistant material is slightly water-repellent and can withstand a light drizzle—but it is not waterproof.

Ventum Nylon blocks the wind while still allowing for excellent vapor permeability, making the material highly breathable. Thanks to its soft texture, Ventum doesn't feel sticky or plastic-like, as is often the case with other fabrics in this weight class.

Since the material is down-proof and mosquito-proof, it is ideal for windbreakers and as an outer layer for sleeping bags.

Ventum fabric achieves an air permeability rating of 39.5 CFM according to ASTM D-737.


900 Fill Power Muscovy Enten Daune

The 900-fill-power musk duck down is certified under the “Responsible Down Standard” (RDS), which guarantees that the animals are treated in a manner appropriate to their species. The down is a byproduct of the meat industry.

Our musk duck down is ultrasonically cleaned, is odor-free, and contains no additional chemicals or treatments.
